Contributions of B.S. Indrakala - Former Karnataka High Court Judge

Justice B.S. Indrakala, a former judge of the Karnataka High Court, has made significant contributions to the Indian legal system throughout her career as an attorney, counsel, advocate, and judge. A resident of Bangalore, Justice B.S. Indrakala is respected for her dedication to justice and impactful legal judgments.

As a judge, Justice Indrakala presided over numerous landmark cases. In a criminal appeal involving a 41-year-old agricultural worker accused of rape and criminal intimidation, she and Justice K. Sreedhar Rao identified flaws in the trial court's judgment, leading to corrective measures. In another one, she ordered compensation for the family of a software professional whose death occurred due to an unscientifically designed road hump. She also ruled in favour of another motor accident victim seeking compensation.

Justice Indrakala's advocacy extended beyond the courtroom. As part of the Vacation Bench of the Karnataka High Court, she issued an interim order requiring the University of Mysore to accept exam fees from ostracized students, including those from scheduled castes and tribes, backward classes, and minority communities. Additionally, her dedication to gender equality was evident in her advocacy for women's rights and her discourse on combating gender discrimination.

Her contributions have earned her numerous accolades as well as appointments as a public pleader and on public sector boards addressing legal concerns. After retiring in 2019, Justice Indrakala now enjoys hobbies like painting and knitting.
